Simon Ward's (photo courtesy of CJ) reaction to Larger Than Life (1999) ...so fun to see the newer dancers learn this dance w/so much enthusiasm! Same reaction for John Robinson's Switchblade USA (1998); 2001 Destination Dancefloor (Peter Metelnick/Alison Biggs) and Peter's And They Danced 2002! Wildman Louie doesn't repeat dances over a weekend unless they are HOT and/or the choreographer is in house. Thursday pre party was jammed ...dancers come to 'this' party to DANCE to the tunes they KNOW and we did til 1am! FRIDAY workshops (5 rooms) were mostly full. The Friday evening 'parade'of new workshop dances began. It was tedious for 400+ dancers to watch while the rest remembered new choreography on a huge ballroom floor ...So...At 9:30 pm the 'Thursday' ballroom was opened w/DJ John to a request list format. Peter & Alison danced w/us til 11:30ish ...by that time ...the main ballroom was again playing request list favorites, but the floor was no longer full. Saturday's workshops (5 rooms) were mostly full & the ballroom was capacity & open til 3am playing to a good crowd of diehards!! Sunday workshops were sparse. Open dancin' between workshops non-existant.
Event directors have to be proactive to thrive. A 'formula' is not gonna hold for years. Innovate, but listen ...experienced dancers want to dance non stop at 'big' events! Having instructors teach us GREAT dances is just part of the price we pay for a weekend of enjoyable dancin' together.

I am standing by my opinion that a big event needs to be pre scripted w/oldie hot ones (Hella Dance comes to mind), current newer ones (Cheek to Cheek) and this dance playlist published a month in advance. New dances (Funkalicious) be added in pre arranged spots as soon as they become HOT. The INTERNET is a resource; there is NO excuse for any dance to be played that flushes a floor when ~500 'experienced' dancers gather together. We PAY to see ALL new floor fillers, so ...Let's Get Started!
